The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has just been released in record-breaking theaters. And it was first shown to the huge public last Wednesday at exactly 12:01 AM in more than 4,000 theaters and the film made a brand new record, breaking that of another Twilight movie.
Eclipse has first broken the record set by Iron Man 2 last May for having the widest theatrical release in North America. Now, it seems like nothing is going to stop Eclipse from breaking other records. And broke them it did. It has now surpoassed the midnight-release gross of The Twilight Saga: New Moon last November. Just about eight months ago, New Moon broke the crushed the record of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince; New Moon earned $26.3 million after the midnight screenings in 3,514 theaters, while Harry Potter took home $22.2 million. Then Eclipse came and surpassed the record of New Moon with an estimated $30 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Eclipse then eclipsed the record of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen for being the highest grossing IMAX midnight screening, which was also set last year. Eclipse was shown in 192 IMAX theaters and earned about $30 million, exceeding the second Transformers movie’s $959,000. The third installment of the Twilight series is the first to be shown in IMAX among the movie franchise. The ticket prices in IMAX iare higher compared to those of regular theaters.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is directed by David Slade, who is best known for making music videos for Tori Amos, Stone Temple Pilots, and Muse. His film credits include Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night. The screenplay is written by Melissa Rosenberg, who was also the scriptwriter of Twilight and New Moon. The Twilight series is based on the popular novel series of American author Stephenie Meyer. The movie stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner,
